Approximately 500 choristers, and their accompanying instrumentalists, will be presenting their music in sessions that run throughout the day.
These choirs will be striving to be worthy of a place in the National Finale
(25 – 27 Aug in Christchurch Town Hall) or Cadenza (12-13 Aug at Sacred Heart Basilica, Timaru).
The choir’s aims are to rehearse and perform a wide variety of choral music within the South Canterbury district for the enjoyment and benefit of choir members and the wider community and to provide a forum for young musicians through the public performances of the choir.
We aim to perform three concerts per year, usually April, August and late Nov/early December which vary in style and often incorporate guest musicians. Our choir is friendly and sociable while aiming for a very good standard of singing. We love to welcome new members.
An SATB choir whose main aims are to enjoy singing and to bring choir music to the Rangiora Community.
The MCC is an SATB choir, performing a wide range of choral work. We generally give three concerts each year in a variety of venues around Mid Canterbury.

There are 50 active choir members – we audition new choir members, usually just prior to beginning work on a new programme.
We are a non-auditioned women’s community choir of about forty members, currently. We sing in two and three parts as our name suggests, and sing songs from the shows, classics, pop, ethnic and everything in between.
Founded in 1885 with just over 20 members, the Christchurch Liedertafel male voice choir has grown steadily over the years. Our current membership stands at 46 – a vibrant, diverse group of people drawn together by a common love of male voice choral music who, in addition to singing for pure enjoyment and camaraderie, perform three subscribers concerts each year.
The Cantabile Community Choir is an all-comers choir that sings a combination of both classical and popular items for the enjoyment of its members and audiences. We present small concerts in retirement villages throughout the year, with a larger public concert at the end of the year. New members are always welcome. No audition required. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 7:15pm at the CSM Rooms on Ferry Road.
A Capellago meet on Tuesday nights during the school term from 7.30pm – 9.30pm at the Phillipstown Hub. We are a small, mixed voice choir and are open to new members. It is an auditioned choir. Members need to memorize all their music. We learn at quite a fast pace, so singers need to be fairly experienced and sing accurately. We sing in a wide variety of languages and also sing contemporary songs in English. Ease with syncopation is a must.
We are a very warm, friendly, social group who aim high but don’t take ourselves too seriously.
Atlas Voices (originally Pro Arte Chorale) began in 2011 and was established as a collection of Christchurch’s best vocal talent dedicated to presenting exciting music performances to audiences in Canterbury. The group continues to push the boundaries and expectations of choral music by presenting a variety of styles at an exceptional standard under the expert leadership of American maestro, Ravil Atlas.
A non audition Taiwanese society choir, rehearsal at 14 Owens Terrace every Saturday morning 10:00~11:30.
The Christchurch Youth Choir is an auditioned group for singers aged 16-26, currently directed by Courtney Hickmott. Founded in 2012, the Choir has seen incredible growth and enjoyed many successes over the years. Our repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary and our concerts often feature talented New Zealand musicians. We have undertaken two tours to date; to Timaru and Dunedin in 2013, and Brisbane in 2015. We are – uniquely – an entirely youth run organisation, with a committee currently led by President Courtney Dyson.
Open Song is a non auditioned choir that meets from 7.30pm – 9.30pm on Wednesday nights during school terms. We sing music from around the world and contemporary songs in English and also enjoy helping members improve musicianship and reading skills using the Kodály approach. We welcome people of all ages and abilities. We aim high, in a fun, supportive environment.
Reflections Threshold Singers sing in small groups (2, 3 or 4) at bedside in homes, nursing homes, hospital, and hospices. Open Evenings are held periodically and there is an informal audition process. Rehearsals are on Sunday evenings and bedside singing is in daytime (normally weekdays).
