Schola Cantorum – Kate Sheppard songs – 24 July

Schola Cantorum presents “With comrades brave and true”: Celebrating songs that Kate Sheppard sang.

Friday, 24 July, 5.20pm, at The Piano, 156 Armagh Street.

Admission: $10. Children under 16 – no charge.

Kate Sheppard was not just a suffragist, she was also a fine musician who loved singing (sometimes as the soloist) with the choirs in her neighbourhood of Riccarton during the 1880s and 1890s.

This concert is selected from the programmes of concerts that Kate sang in, along with a few other songs by composers of the period.  Victorian part-songs, and glees are not often heard these days, Schola Cantorum hopes you enjoy listening to these 19th century gems as much as they enjoyed learning them.

The Schola Cantorum choir sings early European music, mostly unaccompanied.
